Tips for staying secure while online
We are committed to researching, developing and adopting leading digital security technologies to provide you with a secure service. However, there are some simple things you can do that will help with security, not just with us, but for all online interactions.
It’s good practice to ensure you are doing the following, every time you are online.
- Keep your passwords and security details private and safe, so no one else can access your online accounts, without your permission.
- Create complex passwords of eight characters or more with a combination of alphabet, number and special characters. Do not use dictionary words within your password and do not reuse your password for multiple websites.
- A password vault is recommended for the creation and storage of complex and unique passwords as it is easier to use and store them.
- Secure your personal documents at home, at your work, in the cloud and when you travel.
- Download security updates and use anti-virus software for Laptop/MacBook/Mobile to protect against attacks from new viruses and hacking attempts.
- Identify and delete phishing emails. These can be tricky because scammers often pretend to be someone or a company that you know and trust, to make you click links that are harmful. Think before you click or download attachments.
- Filter and delete spam (emails from a source you don’t trust).
- You should also avoid using unsecured Wi-Fi networks for secure transactions, like banking or online shopping.
- Do not share your OTP (one-time password) with anyone.
- If you receive an SMS or phone call about a data breach or issue in your account, hang up and login into your account to validate.
- When using social media, adjust privacy settings to control what you share. Be careful how much personal information you post or reveal. Especially about holidays and dates you will not be home.
